A weak cold front will continue to move across Maui county and the Big Island today, bringing periods of breezy conditions and passing showers. Remnant moisture from this front may remain along windward portions of the Big Island during the first half of the week. A cooler and drier weather pattern is expected starting today across the western half of the island chain, and prevailing through Wednesday with calmer winds. A very large northwest swell will continue to spread down the island chain through today. Another front may bring more showers Wednesday night. Updated: 02/22/2016 4:30 am HST

Trade winds will gradually decrease later today and tonight as a front approaches the area from the northwest. Moisture associated with the front along with strengthening trade winds early in the week will cause an increase in shower activity especially over windward and mauka areas. A cold front will move south of the Big Island this morning. Gusty northerly winds will prevail today, with showers diminishing. The coolest air mass of the season will settle over the state today and linger through early this week. Winds will shift to the northeast and decrease on Monday. A weak high pressure ridge will shift southward over the western end of the state Tuesday and Wednesday, allowing daytime seabreezes to develop. Gentle trade winds should return Wednesday night and Thursday. Mainly dry weather will prevail from this afternoon through the upcoming week. Updated: 02/07/2016 3:51 am HST

A series of weak fronts passing north of the islands throughout the week will result in the disruption of trade winds across the area at times, with brief periods of land and sea breezes.
